PetCentRx Case Study - Seasonal Allergies and Addison’s Disease Symptoms Alleviated For Seven-Year-Old Lab/Retriever with Vim & Vigor Nutritional Supplements

Problem

Nico, a seven-year-old mixed breed of yellow Labrador and Golden Retriever, had an all-clear on hip dysplasia but suffered from a wide range of ailments: seasonal allergies, neurological tics, seizures, chronic bladder infections, hypothyroid disorder and chronic back pain. His owner, Emily Jane of Lakewood, Colorado, a veterinarian assistant and office manager for Foothills Animal Hospital, learned the worst news in 2006 when he was diagnosed with Addison’s Disease, where his adrenal glands produced insufficient amounts of cortisol, leading to his severe dehydration, poor appetite, lethargy, decreased appetite, excessive urination and incontinence and subsequent inflammation, swelling, burning and itching, often associated with common rashes in humans.

“For six months,” she recounted, “he underwent a series of shots of Pericortin/V administered every four weeks and at a cost of over $100 per injection. But they were ineffective. His symptoms continued and his accidents in the house increased. His seasonal allergies made his symptoms worse and he became highly sensitized to the steroids. He aged prematurely and all the fur on his face turned white. For a year he suffered seizures where he would become rigid and then shake, drool and urinate and afterward act very fearful and needy. As you can imagine, I was very concerned about our Nico – even with access to exceptional veterinary care, I wasn’t sure where to turn.”

Solution

Emily sat down with her vet, who provided acupuncture along with traditional treatment. Both Emily and her vet were open to natural and homeopathic therapies. “Through our local Bark Busters dog behavioral therapist, we received a supply of PetCentRX “Vim & Vigor,” explained Emily. “We believed “Vim & Vigor” was a very well-rounded formula and began giving them to Nico six months ago. Since Vim & Vigor, he acts like a younger dog! He likes the taste and regards it as a treat. It’s the first thing Nico eats in his bowl. We believe the Glucosamine helped his back pain and that the Co-enzyme Q-10 increased his energy level and helped him absorb nutrients better. The B vitamins helped him balance his water intake and bolstered his energy, too. This is the first fall season we haven’t had to wrap his legs. He’s not scratching or biting himself. His seasonal allergies have abated, and his back pain has eased. It’s either a miracle – or Vim & Vigor dramatically helped Nico’s condition.”

Dr. Shawn's Comments

With Addison’s Disease, a dog suffers an imbalance of sodium and potassium in the body and the disease interferes with the production of hormones that stimulate the adrenal glands. Lethargy in dogs like Nico is probably due to insufficient production of adrenal steroids crucial to a dog’s ability to use energy-containing glucose and to balance levels of critical minerals like sodium and potassium. Pet-Togethers’ PetCentRx Vim & Vigor formula provides a balanced health maintenance formula that contains vitamins and minerals that aid in the absorption of nutrients and act as antioxidants to decrease inflammation, pain and itching and supports a healthy immune system, bowels, bladder, joints, connective tissue, heart and gums.
